Creative direction

The idea
comes first.

Cameras are the easy part. The hard part is knowing what to point them at. Creative direction is where Volare Media earns its keep — finding the concept that fits your brand, your audience and your budget before a dollar is spent on production.

What's included

Direction, not decoration.

Position

Brand positioning

Who you are, who it's for, and why anyone should care — sharpened into a point of view your video can carry.

Positioning is the work that happens before any script gets written. We sit down with you, dig into your business, your customers and your competitors, and find the angle that's genuinely yours — the thing a viewer should remember when the video ends.

The result is a clear positioning statement your video can lean on — and honestly, so can the rest of your marketing. For small and medium businesses across BC, this is often the most valuable hour of the whole project: it turns "we need a video" into "we need to say this, to these people."

Concept

Concept development

Treatments, references and scripts that turn strategy into something you can actually watch.

This is where the position becomes a watchable idea. We write treatments — short, visual descriptions of what the video could be — with references, scripts and storyboards, so you can see the concept before a single shoot day is booked.

You'll usually get more than one direction, each with honest notes on what it costs to pull off. You pick with your eyes open, and nothing goes to production until the idea fits your brand, your audience and your budget.

Campaign

Campaign strategy

One shoot, many assets: hero film, cutdowns, pre-roll and social — planned before we roll.

A single well-planned shoot can feed months of marketing: the hero film, 15- and 30-second cutdowns, YouTube pre-roll, vertical clips for Instagram and TikTok, stills for ads. But only if every one of those deliverables is planned before the camera rolls — otherwise the shots simply don't exist in the edit.

Campaign strategy is also media thinking: where the work will run decides its length, aspect ratio, captioning and pacing. A spot built for BC broadcast and a clip built for the feed are different animals — we plan for both on the same shoot day.

Look

Visual direction

Lookbooks, colour, wardrobe and location direction so every frame feels like your brand.

Before the shoot, we build a lookbook: colour palette, lighting references, wardrobe, locations and framing styles that match your brand. It keeps every department — camera, lighting, art — pointed at the same picture.

The payoff is consistency. Done right, a frame from your video feels like your brand before your logo ever appears — and every video you make afterwards builds on the same visual language instead of starting from scratch.

Why it matters

Strategy is the difference between seen and skipped.

Most video gets scrolled past. The ones that don't started with a stronger idea, not a bigger camera. We've directed work across motorsports, fitness, insurance, fashion and construction — and the pattern holds in every industry: direction first, production second, results follow.
